Episode 7: ADHD Tax - The extra price we pay when we suck at life
In this episode, we talk about the dreaded ADHD Tax - the extra costs that we pay when we suffer from forgetfulness, procrastination, impulsivity and that dreaded need for DOPAMINE. Those extra costs can be financial, they can be emotional, they can impact your career, your health and your friendships/relationships.
Episode 6: Let’s talk about stimulant medications
In this episode, we share our experiences with ADHD meds. And it might not go the way you expect. We chat about: The hope and expectation of starting ADHD meds. The ups and downs of trying each type of medication. The side effects - OMG THE CRASHES! And a rather grumpy James ;) Where we’re both at now.
Episode 5: Sarah McLachlan - Learning to be kind to yourself
Meet Sarah McLachlan. In this episode, we chat about: The grief and other emotions experienced after diagnosis. RSD (Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria). Why it’s hard to stick to one job when you’re an ADHDer. Family dynamics. The “helpful” things people say when you reveal that you’re neurodivergent. Getting the medications dialled in… and then what happens when they stop working. The positive things that can come out of an ADHD diagnosis.
Episode 4: The job-off - who’s had the most jobs, and why is it an ADHD thing?
What’s a job-off? It’s where we sit down and compare who’s had the most jobs, the weirdest jobs, the coolest jobs, in both of our (very eclectic and diverse) careers. And most importantly, we ask the question: Why is it that so many ADHDers change jobs so often?
Episode 3: The post-ADHD-diagnosis-emotional-rollercoaster
Receiving a diagnosis of ADHD at this age is huge. Let’s talk about what happened after the assessment process. What did it bring up? What are the breakthroughs and the pitfalls, the stages of grief and the new way of looking at ourselves?
Episode 2: What prompted us to get assessed for ADHD in the first place?
In this episode, we chat about what it was like when, after a passing comment from James’ mum, the “penny dropped” for each of us, and we realised that we might be neurodivergent. Cue - going down the ADHD rabbit hole online, and then seeking out a diagnosis.
Episode 1: Who are we, and why did we start a podcast on ADHD?
This podcast is not aimed to coach you or tell you how to overcome your ADHD struggles. We’re not going to tell you to buy planners, or a whiteboard, or take specific supplements. This podcast is more going to be conversations about what it’s like to have ADHD, how it felt to get diagnosed, and hopefully contribute to raising awareness in a time where it’s suddenly a very hot topic.
